Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas: your options

Grand Canyon West is the part of the canyon that sits closest to Las Vegas. A Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas to this rim comes in three forms: a guided coach, a flight from Boulder City, or a drive on your own with a ticket bought separately. The coach is the cheapest guided option. The flights save driving time and add a view from above.

The tours below go to the Hualapai reservation, not to Grand Canyon National Park. That matters for the ticket. A National Park Service pass is not accepted at the West Rim, and every package here is sold separately by its operator.

Vegas to Grand Canyon West Rim: how the day works

What to expect on a guided trip.

Pickup

"Las Vegas" can mean a hotel pickup or a start in Boulder City. The flights leave from Boulder City, and the hotel transfer is part of the package. Confirm the exact pickup place and time when you book.

The drive

The road leaves Las Vegas on US-93 toward Kingman and then turns onto Pierce Ferry Road. Plan 2 to 2.5 hours one way, so a coach day is long. Our getting there guide has the full route.

At the rim

You park or arrive at the terminal and move between Eagle Point, Guano Point and Hualapai Point on a free hop-on-hop-off shuttle. Private vehicles do not drive on to the viewpoints. Plan time for the Skywalk and for Guano Point and Eagle Point.

Opening hours

The park opens at 8:00 a.m. every day, including holidays. Tickets go on sale until 4:30 p.m., and in summer until 5:30 p.m. Closing is at 6:00 p.m., in summer at 7:00 p.m. The Skywalk is busiest from 11:00 to 15:00.

Aerial view of Las Vegas Boulevard and the casino hotels of the Strip

Staying on the Strip

The coach transfer serves selected hotels only. Check that yours is on the list before you pay, and ask about the pickup time.

Drive yourself instead

A day trip with a rental car.

Tickets for self-drivers

A day visit without a booking is possible if you drive yourself, and you can buy tickets at the park. Overnight stays, rafting and tours with transport need a reservation. See the ticket guide for General Admission at $67, All-Access at $99 and the Sunset Pass at $59.

Fuel and roads

Fill up before the desert section. Fuel stations are on US-93 at Pierce Ferry Road and in Dolan Springs. Do not rely on a station at the rim. The main roads to the West Rim are paved.

Add Hoover Dam

The bridge near the Hoover Dam carries US-93 into Arizona. A visit to the dam itself means returning to Nevada. The Hoover Dam guide has a page on getting to the dam from Las Vegas.

If you compare the West Rim with the more famous park side, see Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas for trips to other parts of the canyon and our West Rim and South Rim comparison.
